Chairman PTA terminated by Lahore High Court

The Lahore High Court today declared the appointment of Chairman PTA Mr. Farooq Awan illegal, on a petition filed by Khawaja Saad Saleem. The petitioner challenged the appointment of the Chairman because the requirements of Telecom Act 1996 were not fulfilled.

The court declared that Mr. Farooq’s appointment as the PTA chairman had been made on a political basis and Unconstitutional. On the previous hearing of this case, Court refrained Farooq Awan from carrying out his duties without the approval of other members of Authority. Blamed for the delay in the 3G license auction Sub-Committee of Senate on IT had also recommended terminating his job.

According to sources, Kamran Ali member legal Ministry of Finance and Dr Khawar Siddique Khokhar member technical PTA are strong candidates for the appointment as new Chairman.
