Viber, a free instant messaging and VoIP application for smartphones is now available for BlackBerry OS5 and OS7. Viber is already available on popular mobile operating systems like Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Nokia S40, Symbian and BB OS 10.
BlackBerry OS6 is also supported but due to some technical limitations the calling feature isn’t available.
Viber was initially launched for iPhone in Dec 2010, as a competitor of Skype. Now its gaining popularity very quickly, millions of Viber users call, text, and send photos to each other, worldwide. Viber calls are in HD quality and often offer better sound quality than regular carrier networks.
With Viber there is no need to register a username and password, you just have to activate Viber using your phone number once. Viber will then scan your phone book and automatically recognize other Viber users in your contact list who have already activated it.
Unlike other applications mobile calls and texts on Viber are free from ads, though the Viber app requires several permissions which can collect your sensitive data and store it online. So use it at your own risk!
