Facebook owned photo and video sharing service, Instagram is growing bigger. Announced today at the blog, there are now more than 500 million instagrammers out of which 300 million are those who use the app daily.

According to the company stats, more than 95 million photos and videos are posted at Instagram on a normal day ─ from people around the globe, 80% of which reside outside the United States.

Instagram started its journey back in 2010 with 25,000 app downloads on the very first day. The service was bought by Facebook in 2012 for about $1 billion and has been growing rapidly ever since.

Thank you for your creativity, your openness and your passion for sharing your worlds with one another. We can’t wait to see what you create next.

In the past of couple of years, Instagram is heavily focusing on ads. A recent change now shows photos ordered by an algorithm rather than shown in chronological order; some experts claim that it will cause more ads to appear in the photo feed. However Instagram’s CEO and co-founder Kevin Systrom refused those claims and said that we only wanted to show “more relevant content” first.

In the recent years, Instagram has become the home of countless artists, musicians and athletes ─ giving a tough competition to Twitter and Snapchat.
