PEMRA Bars GEO News From Broadcasting Interview of TTP Terrorist

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has barred Geo News from broadcasting an interview with Ehsanullah Ehsan, a former spokesman for Terrorist organization TTP.

The Authority has issued a press release saying that under the section 27 of PEMRA ordinance 2002, it has barred GEO News from airing the interview.

Only Confessional Statements can be Broadcasted:

PEMRA says that broadcasting the interview of a known terrorist is against the directions of National Action Plan (NAP) and Supreme Court’s code of ethics for media.

Media can only show their confessional statements, which in this case has already been broadcasted by all major news channels.

The press release said that after GEO News broadcasted the promos of this interview, the Authority has got hundreds of complaints through call, SMS and email to stop this broadcast.

Broadcasting the interview of a person involved in killing hundreds of innocent people will hurt the sentiments of the victims of terrorism. Furthermore, it says that if the channel doesn’t comply, PEMRA will take strict action under the section 29 and 30 of the ordinance.
