Microsoft Announces Special Edition of Windows for Chinese Government

Microsoft has announced a new version of its Windows 10 operating system, specifically tailored for the Chinese officials dubbed as Windows 10 China Government Edition.

This new OS will be used by China Customs, Westone Information Technology and the City of Shanghai (EITC). It will later be used by other government departments as well, currently using a forked version of Linux for security purposes.

Windows 10 China Government Edition is based upon the Enterprise Edition, which includes many additional security features and can easily be customized according to the business needs.

China wants to keep their data locked down:

Chinese Government will be using its own encryption with this Windows and the automatic updates will be tailored as well. The default search engine and browser might be different and certain features like OneDrive won’t be packaged with this version.

Lenovo will be the first OEM to start shipping computers with this new operating system in China and soon other manufacturers will follow suit.

Microsoft Claims that Windows 10 is the most secure OS:

Microsoft claims that their Windows 10 OS is one of the world’s most secure system and governments around the world like the U.S. Department of Defense, the Australian Health Department, and the Italian Ministry of Defense are choosing Windows 10 for their security.
