Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally initiated Phase 4 of the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme on Thursday, marking a significant drive to equip Pakistan’s students with digital tools.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Sharif called the initiative a “milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward a knowledge-driven economy.” The scheme, first launched in 2010, has already distributed over 100,000 merit-based laptops. The Premier announced a massive Rs500 billion allocation for youth education and skills development, emphasizing that youth funds have never been cut despite economic challenges.

Global Skills Focus

Beyond the domestic distribution, PM Sharif revealed a new strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia to provide training in Artificial Intelligence (AI), IT, and modern trades. He noted that as Saudi Arabia pursues Vision 2030, Pakistan’s youth are positioned to be their “partners in progress,” filling the need for millions of skilled workers.

Sharif highlighted that Pakistan is one of the few developing nations actively formulating AI policies and exploring semiconductor manufacturing.
