Branchless banking has witnessed a constant rise in popularity and a steady growth in the number of players during the recent years.

Keeping in view that branchless banking is relatively a new phenomenon for telecom journalists, Zong recently held a training workshop on branchless banking at Institute of Business Administration, City Campus Karachi.

Speaking at the workshop Farooq Niaz, Manager PR and CSR at ZONG highlighted the fact that with the introduction of branchless banking transmission of money has become effortless and swift. He said that ZONG realizes that with growing usage of branchless banking, there was a dire need to fill the gap of knowledge for telecom journalists who desire a better and in-depth understanding of this technology.

Farooq added that organizing this workshop was a part of ZONG’s efforts to promote capacity building among the journalists as ZONG wants to foster a community which is well-informed about the latest technologies. He also said that ZONG believes in providing the customers with excellent network, fulfilling service and valuable products with business intelligence.

The workshop was attended by telecom journalists from both print and electronic media. The main objective of this workshop was to acquaint the journalists with regulations and models of branchless banking in Pakistan. The participants thanked ZONG for its undying efforts to promote professional expertise in various areas of reporting and for conducting such a useful training workshop. Journalists also urged the organizers to hold such events in the future as well for capacity building of media persons.

Training facilitators Ms. Lubna Farooq, Director State Bank of Pakistan and Mr. Muhammad Akhtar Javed, Additional Director, State Bank of Pakistan stressed that the prime purpose of such kinds of training were to improve professional skills of journalists as they can play a vital role in disseminating information to people.

Journalists attending the session, stressed that similar workshops should be conducted in the other cities as well. They said that branchless banking is fast becoming the future of banking model. ZONG with its product Timepey is significantly contributing towards accelerating the financial inclusion of unbanked population in the country. And to fully realize the potential of this facility, journalists have to be trained so that they can spread the knowledge among masses.
