In a latest move, two major WiMAX Broadband providers in the country; Wateen & Qubee have announced to combine their wireless broadband network in Pakistan.
The transaction which is subject to the requisite corporate, regulatory and governmental approvals is targeted to be completed within the first half of year 2014.
With the formation of a new business, Wateen and Qubee intend to re-energize the wireless broadband market with planned investments of more than US$25 million for the improvement and expansion in coverage of the combined network of both companies as well as phased upgrade to 4G LTE Technology.
It is not clear that, either they are going to introduce a new brand name or will continue working with the same brands. After the successful formation, Wateen/Qubee will become the second largest broadband operator in the country and one of the two WiMAX operators.
It merits mentioning here that Qubee has also acquired the customer base from Mobilink Infinity, which wrapped up its operations recently. After the formation of new business with Wateen, there is hope that they can give a tough competition to PTCL — which currently holds the largest number of Broadband subscribers in the country.
