Karachi based publishing house KITAB has launched the first online Urdu Thesaurus service and mobile application.
The Urdu Thesaurus provides synonyms for Urdu words for over forty thousand unique words and phrases, and over twenty thousand sets of synonyms can be searched.
Musharraf Ali Farooqi, editor of the online Urdu Thesaurus who is also the author of many critically acclaimed novels said that the number of words in our database will grow exponentially in the coming months and years, as the resource develops with more data.
Vocabulary building tools, bilingual dictionaries and special terminology dictionaries will be introduced to promote the usage among students and educationists.

Urdu Thesaurus was developed in over a period of five years, without any funding or government support. After the beta release of this service, publisher KITAB is now seeking sponsorship to complete and improve this project.
The free Urdu Thesaurus app also allows users to search and share the data through email and social media. Synonyms can be shared, and any suggestions for corrections or additions sent directly from the app through email.
