A tiny memory card now holds more storage than your gigantic computer hard disk. California-based manufacturer of data storage products Western Digital has unveiled a new 1 terabyte SDXC card recently that breaks all previous records.
The prototype of this card was shown at a trade show in Germany, where just two years ago they debuted the 512GB card, which was then the world’s biggest.
This new 1 terabyte card is geared toward emerging technologies such as ultra-high-resolution photos, hi-res videos, VR, 360-degree video, and video surveillance.
“Sixteen years ago we introduced the first SanDisk 64MB SD card and today we are enabling capacities of 1TB,” said Dinesh Bahal, VP Western Digital.
The price will be extravagant!
No word on the pricing and availability yet, however the 512GB card was marketed with a price tag of $800, so we can assume that this new 1TB card will be costlier and there is an increased chance to lose your precious data since you’ll continue storing more and more on it.
