General Mobile, a Turkish smartphone brand made its debut in Pakistan market quite recently with GM 4G. What’s special about General Mobile is that it is the part of Android One project by Google.
Android One is aimed at low-end segment that brings latest version of Android with the promise of future upgrades, just like you will get on a Nexus or Pixel phone but it won’t cost you an arm and leg.
Today the Turkish company has announced GM 5 and 5 Plus, two new smartphones that would bring the goodness of Android Nougat with them.
These are one of the very few devices to get Nougat, because right now the official support is limited to Pixel phones and LG V20 only.
GM 5:
It packs a 5-inch IPS display with 720p resolution and comes with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It has quite decent design, all plastic though and comes in gold, space gray and black.
On the inside this phone packs an unnamed quad-core Snapdragon processor with the clock speed of 1.2GHz along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB on-board storage. You can also expand the memory up to 128GB with a microSD card.
GM 5 packs a 13-Megapixel primary camera along with dual-LED flash and a 5-Megapixel shooter on the front.
It is a Dual SIM 4G phone and packs a 2500mAh battery, however the highlight is the Android Nougat 7.0 operating system. As a part of Android One project it will get regular software updates for up to 18 months.
GM 5 Plus:
The Plus version packs a slightly larger 5.5-inch LTPS IPS screen with 1080p display. It features a 2.5D curved screen along with Gorilla Glass 4 protection.
It has a slightly different design on the front and also a bit slimmer than the regular one. There more choice to colors as well, including Space Gray, Gold, Rose Gold and Silver.
On the inside it packs Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal-storage, however doesn’t mention a memory card slot.
The camera setup is similar to its smaller sibling, a 13-Megapixel primary camera along with dual-LED flash and a 5-Megapixel shooter on the front.
GM 5 is also a dual SIM 4G LTE smartphone and it packs a slightly bigger 3100mAh battery.
This phone also runs Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box and promise to provide future upgrade of operating system.
These Phones are Coming to Pakistan
As the part of Android One project these phones are expected to launch in Pakistan and 19 other markets during this month, however there is no word on the pricing yet.
