The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is once again going hard against the sale of illegal mobile phones in Pakistan.

In a recent crackdown PTA along with FIA Cyber Crime circle teams raided the mobile market at Bahadurabad Karachi and confiscated 216 non-typed approved mobile handsets of different models.

The non-type approval smartphones of Samsung, HTC, LG, Apple, and Motorola have been been confiscated during the raid. FIA has also registered a FIR against the culprits.

The successful raids against illegal telecom activities were made possible because of continuous monitoring, commitment and persistent efforts by PTA in curbing the menace of illegal and unlawful activities where the cheaters are fleecing the Government with grey channel import of mobile devices to avoid taxes. PTA has encourage the public to report any such activity to PTA at [email protected].

It is worth mentioning that every phone and Tablet with SIM capabilities is required to be type approved from PTA prior to its sale in the open market. This way the authorities can also easily track the IMEI numbers if the devices are used by criminals and terrorists.
