ITU Radiocommunication Bureau Organizes Workshop for Pakistani Experts

The ITU Radiocommunication Bureau in Geneva recently hosted a workshop for experts from various sectors in Pakistan. The workshop aimed to provide guidance on ITU-R and was facilitated by notable individuals such as Mr. Sergio BUONOMO, Chief of BR SGD, and Mr. Nick SINANIS, Study Group Advisor, among others. Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Mr. Khalil Hashmi, also played a key role in organizing this event.

In his closing statement, Mr. Omar Malik from the Telecom Ministry of IT & Telecom Pakistan proposed the establishment of an ITU-Pakistan Community or an ITU-T Center for Telecommunication Research in Pakistan. The proposed initiative seeks to address several challenges including G5 regulations and policies, telecom environmental issues, optimization of energy consumption, development of 5G business models, cyber security standards, evolving social media standards, space economy frameworks, and the intersection of artificial intelligence and telecommunications. The goal is to spark collaboration between Pakistan’s industries, academia, ITU, and global partners to promote innovation, sustainability, and inclusive socio-economic development.

The workshop, which was held online, saw the participation of over ninety professionals from various sectors such as industry, academia, government, and technology. Representatives from ITU were also present. The platform provided an opportunity for knowledge exchange and collaboration, echoing the mission of ITU-R to promote the effective and efficient use of radio spectrum and satellite orbits.

As Pakistan continues its advancement in the field of telecommunications and ICT, workshops like these play a crucial role in maintaining the nation’s position at the forefront of technological progress. This workshop, organized by ITU-R Geneva, is a significant step towards fostering cooperation, bridging gaps, and facilitating the exchange of ideas and expertise between Pakistan and the global community.
