The Google Pixel 9 series is set to launch globally and in India on August 13. Reports indicate that Google’s upcoming flagship smartphones may include a satellite SOS service, similar to Apple’s. A teardown of the latest Android 15 beta update suggests that Google might offer up to two years of free Pixel Satellite SOS service for Pixel devices, mirroring the service period provided by Apple.

Free Pixel Satellite SOS Service

According to a report by Android Authority in collaboration with tipster AssembleDebug, the latest Android 15 Beta 4 update, released last week, contains code strings hinting at an emergency satellite connectivity feature called “Pixel Satellite SOS.” This feature may allow users to connect with emergency services via satellite, sharing their information such as name, email, phone number, location, emergency contact, and device details with emergency services and satellite providers.

The discovered strings also suggest that Google could offer this Pixel Satellite SOS service free of charge for two years. A footer text reportedly says, “Satellite SOS is included at no charge for {two} years,” aligning with the two-year free period of Apple’s Emergency SOS via Satellite service for iPhone 14 and later models.

Additionally, there are hints that older Pixel devices may receive an update to support satellite SOS, with the Pixel 9 series expected to run on Android 15 out of the box.

Additional Discoveries and Features

The presence of this feature was first tipped in March by tipster Mishaal Rahman. An update to the Adaptive Connectivity Services app is believed to have introduced a Satellite SOS settings page under the Safety & emergency tab. This page is expected to include information on how the feature works, customization options for the information shared with emergency services, and a link to purchase Garmin Search & Rescue insurance.

As the Google Pixel 9 Pro is set to go official in India next month, its design has already been revealed ahead of the August 13 launch. With the inclusion of the Pixel Satellite SOS feature, Google is set to enhance its emergency response capabilities, providing users with a critical tool for safety and connectivity.
