Facebook announced back in March that soon company will bring the famous #hashtags to its network. If you are wondering what is a hashtag, it could be any word with a # (Number sign or Pound) before it. Hashtags are very common on IRC, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest and many other social networking websites. Hashtags enable users to follow specific topics.

Now yesterday Facebook has announced that they are adding support for the hashtags, and now users will be able to find similar posts and comments by the Facebook community about any keyword buy putting a #hashtag in their posts. Hashtags are proven to be very useful in the social networking where you can join conversations of your interest with a single click.

As compared to twitter, where mostly tweets are public, Facebook comments are usually viewable to only user’s friends or friends of friends. So you should not expect the same level of activity as you see on the twitter with the new hashtags feature.

The top search bar will also allow the users to find certain keywords and updates from other networks like Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram containing hashtags will also link with Facebook.

This new feature is already live but available for only selected users for now. If you didn’t get this feature yet, you’ll have to wait for a few weeks as the company is also working on some other major updates.
