Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, the world’s largest photography competition concluded yesterday and includes three brilliant photographers from Pakistan, who managed to capture the iconic monuments.
This competition drew 277,365 entries from 10,748 participants this year, the largest pool of submissions of any photo competition. Pakistan had the 7th largest number of submissions with 370 participants who submitted 11,000 photographs.

Blue Hour at Pakistan Monument, the photo by Muhammad Ashar took the 6th position in this contest. To capture this symbol of unity Ashar traveled from Lahore to Islamabad.
The three-tiered octagonal Bibi Jaiwindi shrine in Uch Sharif was photographed by Usama Shaid and got 8th position in the Wiki rankings.
For 10th position, Tehsin Shah’s photo of a camel caravan posing in front of the iconic Derawar Fort was selected. He traveled 500 kilometers to capture this mesmerizing photograph.
The aim of this competition is to improve illustrations in Wikipedia articles about cultural and historically significant properties. It also helps preserve the world’s cultural heritage sites by encouraging people to take photographs and upload them to Wikipedia under a free license.
