Nokia is back in the smartphone game by releasing its first Nougat-based Android phone in China under the umbrella of HMD Global.

Now a report suggests that the Finnish company is also going to get a digital assistant to compete against the likes of Siri, Cortana, Alexa and Google.

Hello Viki?

A recent trademark filing for the name Viki hints that the company is possibly going to release its own digital assistant.

According to the application Viki refers to a software for the creation and monitoring of mobile and web digital assistants working with knowledge and combining all data sources into a single chat and voice based interface.

It doesn’t mean that Nokia will release its digital assistant anytime soon. Moreover the name could be changed since it rhymes with Wiki and used to be the name of Artificial Intelligence in the movie I, Robot.

However, it does guarantee that Nokia is back in the smartphone game and in order to compete against established brands like Apple and Samsung, the Finnish maker will be doing much more than designing top of the line hardware.
