The Sindh police has recently acquired the multi-million rupee 4G mobile phone call locator system for its Counter Terrorism Department.
As the name suggests, the caller locator allows police investigators to spot the exact location from of the mobile phone caller.
Earlier this technology was in exclusive use of the intelligence agencies and police had to contact them in order to track criminals and terrorists.
The 2G and 3G Systems Were Outdated:
It merits mentioning here that in 2013 the Sindh police had acquired two sets of locator system that were capable of meeting requirements of 2G and 3G mobile phones. However, those were not able to locate 4G phones, that is why 2 new sets have been acquired.
The CTD SSP has been appointed focal person for the entire department who could be approached by any unit of the Karachi police with a request for the use of the system.
CTD officials have got the necessary training in the use and transportation of equipment to the required location to offer the services.
This new technology will help the police to counter terrorism activities, high-profile cases of kidnapping for ransom and extortion.
