Train passengers in Pakistan can now book tickets via a mobile application as Pakistan Railways shifts to paperless ticketing.
A new app helps passengers avoid long queues by allowing them to get their tickets anywhere, anytime.
This application is Android only for now and can be downloaded from from Google Play Store. You can use it as a guest but to buy tickets and perform other tasks you’ve to register and create an e-wallet.
Keep in mind that it will ask you for your email, telephone number and CNIC as well. It will also verify the phone and email by sending pass codes, so make sure you provide them correct. Furthermore, the system will ask for your mobile and CNIC in case you forget your password.
The money in your wallet can be loaded through the payments system online or at ticket counters of railway stations. You can show the ticket on your phone to ticket checker at the railway station or during your travel, there’s no need to get a paper ticket.
In a press conference, Minister Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq said that the app based online ticketing system had been introduced in 48 trains enabling passengers to book their seats from anywhere in Pakistan.
He said that no additional charges would be charged for online ticketing. He said that negotiations with companies providing cab services were in progress regarding provision of cab facilities to passengers to reach the nearby railway station.
The Minister also said that since the launch of e-ticketing back in October 2016, railways earned Rs. 60 million through the e-ticketing initiative.
The App isn’t Bug Free for Now:
There might be some bugs in the system, as we have tried at least a couple of times to verify the email, but no codes received. Moreover, once signed in we couldn’t find a way to sign out or register a new account.
