Qualcomm, one the world’s largest semiconductor and telecommunications equipment company has recently announced to re-brand its “processors” as “platforms”.
It means that the company will not use the word processor or SoC to describe its chipsets anymore, rather they will be named as platforms. Furthermore, the Snapdragon branding is now reserved for high-end chipsets only.
Today Qualcomm has announced its first 205 Mobile Platform, that is designed to bring 4G LTE connectivity to the entry-level feature phones.
Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform:
The 205 Mobile is a 1.1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 SoC with Adreno 304 GPU and the Snapdragon X5 LTE modem, which provides Category 4 LTE, or 150Mbps download speeds and 50Mbps upload speeds.
This platform offers support for a VGA display and up to a 3MP camera that records up to 480p 30fps video. The new 28nm chip is available beginning today, and we will see commercial devices in the second quarter featuring these chipsets.
