The Commerce Minister of Pakistan, Khurram Dastgir says that government is making sincere efforts to bring PayPal and other digital payment gateways to Pakistan.
He was addressing the business community of Sialkot, where he told that necessary legislation is already in process under the supervision of SBP (State Bank of Pakistan) and soon key talks will be held with PayPal officials and other companies.
Mr. Dastgir also mentioned that government of Pakistan has successfully managed to ink a deal with the Chinese technology giant Alibaba Group.
He added that the current government is making effective and positive efforts to boost the country’s trade and exports by taking business community into confidence and ensuring the continuity of effective economic, trade and export policies.
Why is PayPal so important for Pakistan?
It merits mentioning here that PayPal is one of the fastest and safer way to send or receive money or make online payments. The Pakistani freelancers will get a huge benefit if they get access to PayPal, presently there is no easy method to collect money from clients abroad and they have to use illegal ways to collect money.
Pakistan is one of the largest exporter of Information Technology and IT-enabled services, however the IT industry is not flourishing expeditiously due to a complicated process of receiving digital payments.
PayPal and other online payments solutions can easily solve these problems and hopefully this time government is sincere in bringing these services to Pakistan.
CEO of eBay (which is the parent company of PayPal) has already shown a keen interest in Pakistan’s market and termed it as one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets.
What do you think, we will get PayPal this time? or we will just keep hearing about it like we have in the past 10 years?
