WhatsApp is currently testing the companion mode for mobile phones by enabling the feature for beta users.
It is very easy to discover if you can already link your existing WhatsApp account to a secondary mobile phone. All you have to do is open the options within the registration screen to see if there is a “Link device” option. If this option is there you can use WhatsApp on a secondary mobile phone.
After linking your WhatsApp account to a new mobile phone, your chat history will be synced across your linked devices. Since this is a beta version, some features may still not be available, like live locations and stickers.
Note that you can link up to 4 devices at once so you may also link more than two mobile phones to your WhatsApp account.
Your personal messages and calls are still end-to-end encrypted even if you use WhatsApp from a linked mobile phone: when someone sends you a message, it is sent to all your devices so encryption is always preserved.
This new feature is currently available for a few beta testers and it is rolling out to more users over the coming weeks. If the feature is still not available for you, please wait for an upcoming new beta build and keep your version of WhatsApp up to date.
