LG Innotek has just unveiled its new optical telephoto zoom camera module that will be available for future smartphones within the next few months.
The South Korean company’s new optical telephoto camera will arrive with integrated telescopic camera function that is capable of capturing the high magnification of up to 4x to 9x zoom. According to the company, the new image sensor will be capable of capturing such shots without sacrificing any image quality. As per official notes, conventional ‘fixed zoom modules’ only offer optical magnification within specific zoom ranges.
Any other magnification applied on the shot is enabled through the digital zoom. The camera module will be able to achieve these zoom capabilities with the help of a newly developed “zoom actuator”. It is a crucial component of the module developed by LG Innotek. This enables the telephoto shooter to capture clear images between all sections between the 4x and 9x magnification sections as well and is not limited to just the two levels.
Moreover, the OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer) applied with the new design method reduces the blur phenomenon from shaking, and increases the definition. As the zoom camera can show the shaking more clearly, OIS is considered a key function.
Furthermore, LG Innotek minimized the module thickness to eliminate the ‘camera bump’. In general optical zoom modules, the focal distances are longer as the magnification increases, resulting in thicker modules, so LG Innotek designed a new lens and structure to address this problem.
