All of us are aware that the webcams installed on PCs aren’t of the best quality, which is why many individuals opt for an external webcam. Some have even begun to use their phones as webcams, but this necessitates installing third-party applications.
Now the tech giant Google is reportedly working on a feature that will enable users to use their Android phones as a USB webcam.
According to Android analyst Mishaal Rahman, Google may add support for turning Android phones into USB webcams. He remarked that “using an Android phone as a webcam became really popular during the pandemic, but you’ve typically had to install a third-party app to do so.”
“You may not have to do this in the future, though, as Google is adding support for turning Android devices into USB webcams!” Further he said “Android is adding a new ‘DeviceAsWebcam’ service” that will turn an android device into a webcam.
Reports claim that the “DeviceAsWebcam” service is actually elaborated as a new service that will be able to turn an Android device into a webcam.Reportedly, this service will work on any Android devices that is capable of using the UVC (USB video class) gadget mode, which is actually capable of sending video data.
According to Rahman, the Android device’s kernel might need to be compiled with ‘CONFIG_USB_CONFIGFS_F_UVCy’ for the new functionality to work.
