A built-in S Pen slot will not be available on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, despite some rumors. According to the latest Korean-based outlet report, Samsung considered adding one during the design phase of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold5, but decided that adding one would make the device too thick.

As reported, Samsung thought about making a slimmer S Pen for the Galaxy Z Fold5, but decided it would hinder the writing experience because it would reduce the crease. The Galaxy Z Fold5 will be a new hinge design that minimizes the crease, and it will have a different internal arrangement, which won’t allow for an S Pen slot.

There has been speculation that Samsung could have gone with a thinner S Pen, but the current solution would’ve had a poorer writing experience. It seems, however, that Samsung is currently working on a thinner S Pen design that does not compromise writing performance, but it won’t be ready for the Z Fold5 release.
