WhatsApp is developing a new feature that lets users convert audio messages into text, enabling them to read transcripts of audio messages if they do not wish to listen to them.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp for iPhone’s latest beta code identifies and transcribes audio messages into text by identifying their content.

As the feature is in an early beta stage, some limitations are present. Right now, transcriptions are not available for words that are not identified or in a different language than the default.

Transcripts will be handled on the user’s device and won’t be sent to WhatsApp or Apple servers, which ensures the user’s confidentiality. This transcription feature can only be found on iPhones at present and it is uncertain when it will come out for Android phones.

Recently, WhatsApp has added new features to their app like status reactions, voice status, link previews on statuses, as well as an instrument that assists users in messaging themselves.
