Outlook is now free on MacBooks, requiring no Microsoft 365 subscription or Office license. It can be downloaded from Apple’s app store.
Microsoft had previously altered the design of Outlook for Mac users. Outlook for Mac is compatible with all email services that feature IMAP support.
Microsoft has been striving to enhance performance, dependability, and availability for the Mac user. This move to make it free is a bid to grow the number of users who take advantage of Microsoft’s web-based version of Outlook.
The company has made it clear why they have decided to make Outlook for Mac available for free. They are aiming to improve the performance, reliability and accessibility of the software, hoping that this will encourage more people to give it a try.
Moreover, it may persuade customers who need close integration between their email system and productivity programs to opt for Microsoft 365 and Office.
Outlook partner product group manager Michael Palermiti stated, “Outlook for Mac is a native macOS app. Microsoft will continue to develop and maintain best-in-class native apps on Mac and iOS. No Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are planned for Mac Outlook.”
