In a major step towards promoting sustainable transportation and supporting students, the federal government of Pakistan has announced the provision of free electric bikes (E-bikes) to outstanding students across the country. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to encourage the use of electric vehicles (EVs) and reduce environmental pollution.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain. As part of the plan, 120 top-performing students from the federal board will receive free E-bikes, rewarding their academic achievements while introducing them to eco-friendly transportation options.

Expanding Green Initiatives in Islamabad

To further accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, the minister directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to ensure the installation of electric charging stations at all petrol stations in Islamabad. These measures are part of the government’s vision to make Islamabad a model city for green initiatives.

Affordable Electric Vehicles for Everyone

In addition to rewarding top students, the government has also announced plans to distribute 39,000 E-bikes and 1,900 electric rickshaws through concessional loans. This will make it easier for individuals, especially those with limited finances, to own electric vehicles.

To support this transition, the government is also working to install 40 electric charging stations along motorways and highways, ensuring better infrastructure for EV users.

Focus on Transparency and Efficiency

Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized the need for digitizing loan and distribution processes to ensure transparency and fairness. This approach aims to simplify access to electric vehicles while ensuring the benefits reach a broader population.

These steps align with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of transforming Islamabad into a leading green city, setting a positive example for the rest of the country.
