Intel Security and Kaspersky Lab have joined forces with the European law enforcement agencies to initiate a new cyber security project.

Named as, No More Ransom, this project aims to educate internet users about the dangers of ransomware, how it works and how to protect themselves.

Ransomware is malware / computer virus that locks your computer and mobile devices or encrypts your electronic files. When this happens, you can’t get to the data unless you pay a ransom.

The project also helps those that have already become infected and help them recover their data without having to pay a ransom to the attacker.

Prevention from ransomware is possible is very easy, however in many cases, once the ransomware has been released into your device there is little you can do unless you have a backup or security software in place.

Ransomware can be Cured?

This portal contains four decryption tools for various types of ransomware, namely CoinVault, RannohDecryptor, RakhniDecryptor and ShadeDecryptor.

The portal advises you to keep backing up your data periodically and use a good antivirus/firewall in order to prevent a ransomware attack in the first place.

The general advice is not to pay the ransom. By sending your money to cyber criminals you’ll only confirm that ransomware works, and there’s no guarantee you’ll get the encryption key you need in return.
