Sliding across the timeline while watching a YouTube video on mobile could be tricky at times. You can go too fast and skip some video, unfortunately the mobile users won’t have the luxury of keyboard shortcuts like those available on the desktop.

However, a new feature introduced for both iOS and Android users allows you to double-tap on the left or right side of your screen to fast forward or backward any video by 10 seconds.

How does this feature work?

You can open a video in full-screen mode, double tap on the left side of the screen and you go back 10 seconds, tapping on right side takes you forward. Just like the aforementioned shortcut keys “J” and “L” on a desktop.

Google has already started rolling out this feature, you should update to the latest version of the app available for your device.

Keep in mind that some users have reported that this new feature makes the YouTube app a little bit laggy, but hopefully it will be fixed soon.
