During Honor’s global Magic5 series event last week, Honor unveiled a new type of battery, a silicon-carbon battery. Honor Magic 5 Pro is the brand’s most up-to-date flagship phone, equipped with exciting hardware.
The model available in China contains the same features as the one sold globally, but there is a major difference—the battery. The phone released in China uses a Silicon-Carbon battery that has more energy capacity than regular Lithium-ion batteries.
At MWC 2023, Honor explained that silicon-carbon batteries have a 12.8% higher energy density than the conventional lithium batteries that contain graphite on the anode. This means the Honor Magic 5 Pro in China has a larger battery capacity of 5,450mAh while global versions have 5100mAh. Nevertheless, this technology is only available on the Pro and Ultimate models.
The prices of the two smartphones in China are also very different. The Honor Magic 5 Pro was released internationally with a cost of EUR 1,199 (approximately USD 1,267). But in China, the base 8+256GB version is offered at 5,199 Yuan (about $750), while the 12+256GB and 16+512GB models have a price tag of 5,699 Yuan ($822) and 6199 Yuan ($894) respectively.
While Vanilla Magic 5 retails in the global market for EUR 899 ($960), it will retail for $3999 Yuan ($577) for its base 8+256GB version, whereas it will retail for EUR 899 ($960) globally. The 16+512GB and 12+256GB versions will also be available for 4499 Yuan ($649) and 4999 Yuan ($721).
