A fresh, new, mid-range mobile chipset MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ is hitting the headlines today! This nifty piece of tech comes fully loaded with Sub-6 5G support. However, if you were hoping for mmWave, you might have to wait a bit longer, as it’s currently not on the cards.

Six Cortex-A55 cores and two Cortex-A76 cores make up its CPU. The chipset supports 10-bit 90 Hz or 120 Hz displays, “AI-powered cameras” (up to 108 MP) with “2K” 30 fps video capture, and “UltraSave 3.0+ technology,” which provides 20% less 5G power consumption than “competitive solutions,” whichever those may be.

“As developing markets continue rolling out 5G networks at a rapid pace and operators in developed markets work to finish transitioning consumers from 4G LTE to 5G, there has never been a more vital need for chipsets that cater to the growing number of mainstream mobile devices that feature next-generation connectivity,” said CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit. “The MediaTek Dimensity 6000 series makes it possible for device makers to stay ahead of the curve with impressive upgrades that boost performance, increase power efficiency and reduce material costs.”

MediaTek claims that it provides stunning portraits and selfies are enabled by “AI-bokeh”, while the company is also working with Arcsoft to bring “AI-color” technology to mainstream devices so users can showcase their creativity.

As we eagerly anticipate the first devices powered by this chip, predictions suggest they’ll hit the streets during the third quarter of this year.
